Designing WCAG 2.1 AA Accessible Interfaces
AccessibilityReact
Inclusive Design Matters
Accessibility isn't an afterthought; it's a fundamental requirement. This guide covers practical steps to reach WCAG 2.1 AA compliance.
Key Checklist
- Color Contrast: Ensuring a ratio of at least 4.5:1 for normal text.
- Keyboard Navigation: All interactive elements must be focusable and usable without a mouse.
- Screen Reader Support: Proper ARIA labels and semantic HTML structure.
[!IMPORTANT] Semantic HTML is 90% of the battle. Use
<button>,<nav>, and<main>correctly before reaching for ARIA attributes.
Testing Tools
I rely on axe-core and VoiceOver to validate my implementations.
